Victory: White House Backs Phone Unlocking
In a stroke of near political-genius the Obama administration stated today that it supports the notion that the public should be able to unlock their purchased mobile hardware from carrier and vendor locks. This is a huge precedent being set not only for smartphones and tablets but for the future of online petitions.

This article from the LA Times details the response and the original petition which received over 114,000 signatures. Allowing for individuals to do what they please with a product that they purchased to own is important in a free society; the only reasons why carriers want to keep consumers from unlocking their hardware is to keep them tethered to their service or with no other option than to buy another phone from their proprietary stores.
Don't forget here at the Cell Phone Doctor we repair phones, buy used phones and even sell used phones at bargain prices.
