Help! I lost my car!

I might have to think about his - Nokia has introduced HERE Auto with App. Other than giving you real time traffic, directions, available parking spots, it can help you find your car when you lose it; i.e, the mall, the grocery store. This is a gift you can give your grandparents. Don't tell them it's a phone, just a handy dandy car finder. :)

Now it looks like you will be able to get a cell phone with a fingerprint reader! That could be a great theft deterrent for your more expensive smartphones. Check out some of the "leaked" photos for the upcoming HTC One Max.

Kyocera Has a Waterproof Phone

Finally, a cell phone that is waterproof! I've wondered - if you can make watches waterproof, why not a phone? Sure there is a reason, but Kyocera has announced their new Hydo Elite and it is coming to your Verizon stores.

New Languages/New Country

In Chile, I learned to speak Spanish.  At school you were only allowed to speak in Spanish unless you were in English class.  Even then, I didn't speak English correctly - I had an Aussie accent.  I learned to speak Spanish quickly - me and my motor mouth.  And, when I least expected it, my mother brought home another baby - another person for me to boss around and rule over.  I had my very own realm going.  You would never have known what a terror I could be - I looked like an angel.  If you didn't look into my eyes, my appearance was totally angelic.  My eyes gave it away though - I could rule with the best of them.

I love Pandora.  It is where I take care of all my musical needs.  My mix includes everything from Rolling Stones to Il Divo and Marco Antonio Solis to Johnny Cash and throw in the Spinners with some Phantom of the Opera.  Let us not forget my love of Lorena McKennat's music either.  Eclectic doesn't even begin to cover it.  I started my list by Liking and Not Liking whatever got played.  I added in a few groups and styles to help them pick what I might want to hear.  For example, right now I'm listening to Pepe Aguilar.  Earlier it was Shakira.  And right now Rick James is on.  It is on my computer.  I pay for the $36 for unlimited access with no commercials, and I listen while I work.  I know I can get it to play in my car, but I haven't figured out how to do that just yet.  Now, Pandora has announced they are lifting their time limits. Give it a try - it is an awesome program.  I have 2 channels, mine and the one for Christmas.  And, I haven't had to click on the Thumbs Down in months.

Well-needed Rest

Keep Track of Your Shows!

Normally, I would go with trivia - it is Thursday after all. I figure I will be helpful instead. The following caught my eye, as it rightly should. I don't know about you, but I know some people who would really appreciate tracking their... TV shows. I know I need to track those movies I keep meaning to watch. Someone let me know if this works.

Lions & Bush Pilots

I though of this picture this AM. It has always intrigued me. The picture hit the web around 2004, so it has been awhile. But, man, I wish I could have seen this up close and personal.

Cake Decorating Career Ended

I took up cake decorating when I was 5 years old.  It was mid-October and my sister was having her 1st birthday.  It was already a pretty cake.  My Mom had just iced it.  My brother and I decided it would look so much better if there were indentations added to this cake.  That would make it look so special!  So, we used our index fingers to make little dents, trying to keep it symmetrical (I didn't not know that word at the time, but I was already weird that way - love symmetry).  In between making these absolutely lovely indentations, we licked the frosting off our fingers.  I remember - great frosting! Mom was so NOT pleased.  In fact, my brother and I made a run for it right out the window.  I don't know how it was resolved, but my sister did get a cake for her birthday with nice smooth frosting.  That was the end of my cake decorating career.  My artistic endeavors ruined.  I found other "artistic" endeavors later - all unappreciated, although not so much as that cake.

HTC One Mini (Made for Smaller Hands)

Have small hands and an AT&T cell phone customer? It looks like the new HTC One Mini will be the perfect fit. It's coming to AT&T soon.

Family as Friends

Before we leave Australia and move on to Chile, let me tell you, my sister was born there. As they say, you can't pick your family; only your friends. I was very lucky in that I ended up with both. As with all families, there were ups and downs. The end result is what matters. Families and friendships take effort. They don't just show up and say "here I am." OK - actually, family does. One day you are an only child, then your Mom comes home from the hospital with a baby brother. Before you know it, she comes home with a sister. No choices - no one asked me. :)

New Discoveries

Never in my life did I think we would actually discover a new mammal.  It seems that they were all rapidly disappearing.  In fact, so many have disappeared in my lifetime, or have gotten very close to being extinct.  So, today, let's welcome the Olinguito from the Andes Mountains in Colombia and Ecuador.  It is a cuties.

Some interesting facts!

Monks in the 16th century recorded seeing a giant explosion on the side of the Moon. It most likely was a large meteor that slammed into the Moon and left a large crater. It was a good thing the Moon was between us and the meteor!

The fastest bird is the peregrine falcon. It can fly at a speed of 168-217 miles per hour.

Vincent Van Gogh only sold 1 painting his whole life and that was to his brother!

Elephants purr like cats do, as a means of communication.

First Love

How old were you when you met your first love?  You never, ever forget that first love.  I met mine when I was about 4 1/2.  He was my best friend ever.  In fact, we were inseparable.  He lived 2 houses down and we went to the same pre-K.  For Christmas that year, he got an electric train set.  He ran over to my house, dragged me away from my presents so I could be the first one to see it (even before his parents).  It was early AM, so no one was up.  And, he was the first person to enjoy tea from my new tea set.  That is love at its finest.  We decided to get married when we got old enough as we didn't want to be apart.  Best friends, sharing, talking about everything.  My family was transferred out of Australia that year.  Neither of us had learn to write, so that was the end.  It was a truly innocent part of my life, he was my very first love.

Does Bullying Start at Home?

From the first moment I remember, I wanted to be an only child. I was the first child for my parents and the first grandchild in both families.  Who wouldn't love that?  But, by the time I was 2, I was gifted with a brother.  Later on, 2 sisters.  It didn't take long for me to realize I was bigger than my brother, that he loved me beyond compare, so I could get him to eat sand.  I was 4, he was 2.  I bullied my brother, but I never bullied anyone else.  Was I a bully?  Or is that just first child syndrome?  He didn't grow up to bully anyone - ever.

TGIF! Really! Woke up this AM thinking about ducklings and remembered this video. It's not recent, but it still brings a smile. What more could you desire on a Friday? I've already watched it twice today. Enjoy!

Foreign Service Trivia

When you join the Foreign Service, you are required to take a language course.  As you will be traveling, this gives the State Dept. a scope on what areas of the world they will later send you.  My father either opted for or was "asked" to take Spanish.  He did so well, they sent him to Australia for his first posting.  Odd, right?  If he had not have done so well, they would have sent him to somewhere in Latin America or Spain.  They loved Australia!  Great country.  And, our home had an incredible view of the coastline (our house was situated on a cliff).  Part of his first duties as a Consular Officer was to meet VIP's coming to Sidney.  Australia had just been "discovered" as an inexpensive place to make films.  My mother and father were thrilled to meet Ernest Borgnine (McHale's Navy) and Anne Baxter (brilliant screen actress).

LG has introduced their new G2. Sounds like it has ALL the perks: 5.2" screen with 1080p HD and uses the Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon will be carrying this later this year in black or white. Nice looking phone. Looks like it could replace both your laptop and your camera. Read about it here:

Get to Work! Sure!

Wednesday. If statistics were run, we would find it is only 2nd in anticipation to Friday afternoon.  Time for a work-related cat photo.

Snow Ice Cream

I remember snow ice cream.  With all the pollution in the air and on the ground, it is a treat I never introduced to my own children.  The first and only time I ate this awesome treat, it had snowed in Arlington, VA.  We were there so my Dad could learn Spanish.  He had joined the Foreign Service, I had a new baby brother, and we were off to see the world.  By the way, as he did so well in Spanish, the State Department sent us to Australia.  Ironic!  Let me think - Mom gave me the recipe once:

1 big bowl clean snow (Canada? Colorado?)
Touch of vanilla
Sugar to taste
Mix and serve immediately.

Don't blame me if I'm off with the ingredients.  I was about 2 1/2 when she told me her secret, oh so good, recipe.

Best Seller Next???

When I was 5, I decided to be a writer when I grew up.  In between, I flirted with being a ballerina, a cop and being a secret agent.  In the back of my mind, I still wanted more than anything to be a writer.  I wanted to be the person who wrote the books I love to read.  Every once in a while, I would work out an outline (and I still have a couple of them in 2 different genres).  My problem, I am not comfortable with conversation - written or oral.  Meanwhile, I grew up, went to work, had children, and I would try to write.  Now, here I am ... blogging.  Not quite what I had in mind, but when you get something you wish for, invariably it comes with minor (major?) differences than the dream.  Now, to just become a best-seller.  Next on my list.  Welcome to Monday.  Everyone, have a wonderful week.

Saturday Trivia

What is a Quenched Galaxy? I didn't know. These are galaxies that no longer form stars. Very cool pictures from NASA via Wired Magazine. Found it fascinating.

MADE IN AMERICA:  Motorola's MOTO X is due out end of August beginning of September.  Verizon and AT&T have already noted that they will have the MOTO Maker available online.  The MOTO Maker allows you to customize your phones color/engravings/etc.  T-Mobile says the new cell phone is compatible with their network, but they are not going to offer the phone at their retail stores.  A cell phone made in America - about time (and, way to go!).  Check it out at:

Now, for those of you who want to get this new cell phone, please remember, we buy used cell phones.  Use the $$ you get from us to help pay for that new Motorola MOTO X.

Eric Snowden vs Polar Bears - Polar Bears Win!

While checking out the news, I was informed that Eric Snowden has been given asylum in Russia.  On a personal level, Russia has never been anywhere near a top 10, 20 or 30 as a country where I would like to live.  Winters last most of the year.  So, while I was thinking about Mr. Snowden freezing his a** off, I was reminded of polar bears.  I know - what a stretch.  But I love cute polar bear videos.
