Thanksgiving will be here in a few days.  A lot of us will be seeing our families - whether at your place or theirs. And, most of us will forget our cameras. It's just the way it works. Now with smartphones, you can take the pictures you want of your friends and family.  But, for those pictures to be worth bragging about, you may want to follow some of these tips:

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I can see why the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is so popular. If I didn't have my Kindle Fire, that is what I would buy. Even though it is larger than a cell phone, it is so well balanced that I can hold it comfortably. Just enough weight so you know it is there and not flimsy. Beautifully made. Nice size screen. What more can I say? I recommend this one (cell phone/phablet) highly.

LG Rumor Reflex

I was checking out the LG Rumor Reflex on Friday. I noted that it is a nice size and weight for my hands. The keyboard opens smoothly and is easy to see and to use. When it is open, the phone is a bit wider, but it is not uncomfortable. The rounded edges make for a good grip. This is a nice, solid, go-to cell phone. We have a number of them for sale at our store location as well as on eBay. Check them out!

When Apple decides to catch up in the market, it goes all out.  Name recognition puts them in the #1 spot.  Users have Apple in the #2 spot and rising.  Their market share went up while Android's went down. See below information.  So, I checked out the iPhone 5 for comfort and ease of use.  Holding the phone, it has a nice weight to it - you know it's there.  Appearance is solid - for the cost, it should be.  It is a bit long for ease in my hand, but I admit to having small hands.  Not so long that I wouldn't buy one for myself.  What I don't like is the charger.  You lose it, you can't just go out and buy the regular micro USB charger or the regular Apple charger.  I thought the days of the charger wars were over.  I have been a big Android user.  I would consider the iPhone 5's.

Grand Opening - Dixie Hwy Location

Looking at a possible date of Monday, November 18th, for the Grand Opening of our new Dixie Hwy location.  Will keep you posted.

Google Nexus 5

For those who prefer Android phones to Apple phones, the new Google Nexus 5 is out and has been reviewed by various bloggers, experts, etc.  These phones are available without contract for half the price of other smartphones.  The design appears to be pretty basic, but for the price, probably worth it. This phone runs about $350.  To read a review on this phone, go to:

Huawei Ascend W2

Haven't played with any of the larger cell phones or phablets (looks like this word is here to stay) lately.  So, in other news . . . I saw an article on the new Huawei W2.  For those of us who want the next best experience and a large screen (4.3").  And, for those of us with low boredom thresholds, this cell phone will come in various colors with more than 20 colored home screen themes. (I change my wallpaper more than once a day.) Not sure when this cell phone will make it to the U.S.  Opening in China, Russia and the Netherlands first.

Friday, November 1, 2013

Last week I discussed the issue of how hard it can be to hold larger cell phones.  This week, I had to pack one of the larger phones for shipment.  This is what I found.  The LG Intuition is 3.5 inches wide.  It fit comfortably in my hand as it was easy to grasp, was not slippery and was not heavy.  The rounded edges didn't cut into my fingers.  Plus, I liked the phone.  Albeit basic black.  I will keep you updated.
