Think iPhones, smart phones, iPads aren't changing the way we operate? This toddler disagrees

Let's face it: iPhones, iPads, and other touch screen devices have changed the way we communicate, read information, and go about our daily lives.

Have you seen this video? Even a toddler prefers interaction—the cause and effect of touching an iPad screen—rather than thumbing through a magazine. As the title suggests, a magazine is an iPad that simply doesn't work.

Isn't technology a great thing?

She sure thinks so.

And if you happen to drop, crack, or break your iPhone, smart phone, or cell phone, bring it to us for a fast repair.

What happens if your cell phone breaks before your contract is up?

It’s rare for a person to purchase a cell phone, along with a two-year upgrade or cell phone plan, and not have anything go wrong with the phone. Two years is a long time to rely on one phone, especially when this phone functions in so many different ways. Wouldn’t you agree that your cell phone:

  • Plays double-duty as your business phone on many occasions (or all the time if you own your own small business)
  • Is used as your home phone as well since many people these days have given up their land-line
  • Holds all of your contact information
  • Connects you to the Internet
  • Records videos and photos of your family and friends
  • Organizes your day-to-day activities
If this list rings true for you, your cell phone is much more than an accessory in your purse or pocket, and the last thing you need is for it to break or get damaged before your two-year contract is up.

Do you know what your options are if your cell phone breaks before your contract is up? You can choose to pay a premium price to replace it—sometimes as much as a few hundred dollars. We think the smarter route to take is to bring it to our shop. The CellPhone Doctor can repair phones of any make and model and we back up our service with a 30-day warranty.

Our level 3 certified technicians can solder broken phones, fix water damaged cell phones, repair cracked screens, and more.

We understand how much you rely on your phone everyday, and we encourage you to check us out if your mobile phone is in need of repair.

Things you never knew about your cell phone

Everyone has a cell phone these days, right? You’ve probably had one for years now. But I’m willing to bet that there are several things you still don’t know about your cell phone.

These tips and tricks are circulating online, but we thought we’d list them for you here as well. They’re good points of reference and could help you in emergency situations. Print this information out, share it with your family and friends, and keep it handy. You just might need it one day.

1. Emergency number. The emergency number worldwide for mobile phones is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

2. Hidden battery power. If your cell battery is very low, press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.

3. Disabling a stolen mobile phone. To check your mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following Digits on your phone:*#06# A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone is stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

4. Free directory service. Cell phone companies are charging us $1 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don’t have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE411 or (800) 373-3411 and you won’t incur any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

Interview with Louis Pomerance, owner of the CellPhone Doctor

A new shop is set to open its doors on October 28, 2011 in Louisville, KY. The CellPhone Doctor, started by businessman and Louisville native Louis Pomerance, will offer cell phone repair for smart phones and basic cell phones, as well as retail sales for cell phone accessories.

Pomerance said his vision for the business was born out of a basic need that he saw in the community. “I had been looking for a new business to start for about a year,” he explains. “And when you look at how many people have cell phones, there just simply was not an adequate service solution for consumers, especially in our area.”

The vision Pomerance has for The CellPhone Doctor extends beyond Louisville, however. The company has plans to open several more shops in the area within the next 24 months. “My hope is to open a total of five locations, four in Louisville and one in Southern Indiana,” said Pomerance. Future location sites include the areas of Outer Loop / Preston Highway, Pleasure Ridge Park, and Bardstown Road near the Watterson Expressway.

The CellPhone Doctor also offers cell phone accessories such as cases, chargers, etc. Join them for their grand opening event on October 28, 2011 at 10478 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY, 40223.

Says Pomerance: “Our store is different than your average repair shop. People can expect to be greeted by a professional customer service staff, and as far as the repair goes, they can expect their repair completed by only Level 3 certified cellular technicians.”

How much time do you spend on your cell phone?

Growing up 20 or 30 years ago was a lot different than it is now—obviously. There was minimal technology, no Internet, an average of five television stations...forget about cell phones.

What in the world did people do back then? Other than make phone calls on a land line, they probably conducted business in person, spent more time outdoors, and studied from actual printed text books.

Well, times are certainly different now. But that begs the question, how did we ever survive without a cell phone growing up?

In my experience, the cell phone goes with you no matter where it is you're going, even if it's just a five minute trip to the store. People love their cell phones and that love will more than likely grow fonder as technology becomes smarter and more advanced.

Here are some fun facts that show just how much people rely on their mobile devices:

Heaven forbid your cell phone ever breaks. But if it does, know you can turn to us for a fast and easy repair.

Cracked iPhone and Smart Phone Screens are Everywhere!

I notice cracked cell phone screens everywhere I go now. Before the CellPhone Doctor launched in Louisville, I didn’t realize the need for cell phone repairs. Now I notice the need everywhere I go. Isn’t that the way it always works? You don’t notice that particular model of car until you own one. You don’t notice things until you have a reason to.

Just this week I’ve:

  • Sat at lunch while the guy next to our table scrolled on a cracked Android screen.
  • Watched a movie with my wife while the lady sitting in the next seat over whips out an iPhone with a cracked screen.
  • Heard that one of our contractors had cell phone water damage from leaving his phone in the bottom of a canoe.
  • Saw a friend on Facebook post about cell phone water damage after dropping their phone in the tub, the sink, or the toilet—can’t remember which it was.

In the past, I just assumed the only option was to go buy a new phone. Bummer. I never realized there was a solid solution. Quite frankly, in Louisville, KY, there wasn’t until now. Lucky for us, we now have a go-to for cell phone repair in Louisville.

The CellPhone Doctor is opening its doors on October 28. Read more here or sign up for email updates.

Coming to a high traffic cell area near you—North Hurstbourne Store Opens

Our first store is set to open on Friday, October 28 in Louisville, KY. We’ll have a lot more information to post and share in the coming weeks and months, but here are some things we can share with you now: We’ll be announcing some grand opening contests, promotions, and prizes; capturing some footage of our build-out and launch; reaching out on social media; and most importantly, we’ll be your new Louisville cell phone repair resource.
Here’s the scoop:

Our brand new shop is at 10478 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY, 40223. We’re conveniently located less than a mile east of North Hurstbourne in the Stoneyfield Center next to Fresh Market.

The store falls between (literally) Douglas Hills, Middletown, and Jtown on the east and south side, and Hurstbourne, Anchorage, and Lyndon on the north and west side.

We are located near many of the local cell phone provider stores and are hoping to be a great referral source for them. If you’re still under contract on your current smart phone, iPhone, or Droid (we fix lots of others too, by the way) and out of warranty, then repair is a great cost-effective option.

Rather than purchasing a brand new phone, let our Level 3 Certified technicians fix your water-damaged cell phone or your broken cell phone screen. It certainly beats shelling out another $300-$500 for a new phone. Plus, all repairs are covered under a 90-day warranty for parts and labor.

To keep tabs on all things CellPhone Doctor, register for our monthly email newsletter.
